Elk County Conservation District Hosting Rain Barrel Workshop
date, time, & location: Saturday, August 23rd at 9:30 a.m. at the Courthouse Annex located at 300 Center Street in Ridgway
description: The Elk County Conservation District in cooperation with the Elk County Planning Department will be hosting a Rain Barrel Workshop for Elk County residents. The workshop will focus on “Best Management Practices for Home Construction Projects.” Property owners often tackle small construction projects on their own without realizing how their actions can create stormwater runoff. This informative workshop will educate residents about stormwater mitigation and how simple Best Management Practices (BMPs) can help you avoid some common mistakes that lead to stormwater problems during home construction projects. Any Elk County resident is welcome to attend, you don’t necessarily have to be planning a home construction project. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will receive a free 40 gallon Rain Barrel, valued at more than $90. Participants must register in advance to attend the workshop and must be present during the workshop to receive a rain barrel. The workshop is open to all residents of Elk County. Registration is limited to 50. To register call The Elk County Planning Department at 776-5335 or 776-5304. Or email Jodi Foster at jfoster@countyofelkpa.com or Sharon Burns at sburns@countyofelkpa.com. Due to the limited availability of rain barrels, registrations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis and only one rain barrel per household is allowed. Deadline to register is Friday August 22, 2014 at 4:00 PM. This Rain Barrel Workshop is made possible by an Environmental Education Grant from The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
